- Beechy Ladies Lose Opening Day Fixture
Beechfield United Ladies lost their first game of 2021/2022 season in the Greater Manchester Womens League going down 4-0 to Hyde United Ladies.
Beechy who included a few new players in the squad for this Division One away game knew they faced a stern test on their opponents massive astroturf pitch. Following their first corner of the match taken by Mia Pemberton Beechy almost opened the scoring but a header by Bethany Hill went wide of the target. In the 10th minute Hyde United took the lead via their No10 and two minutes later the hosts doubled their lead after their No9 beat the offside trap and fired the ball home off the post. There was almost a third goal for Hyde United but following a direct free kick the ball bounced back into play off the crossbar. Shauna Smith, Julie Ward, Aimee Greenwood and Rachel Griffin produced some brilliant defending before another chance for Beechy arrived when Stacey Partridge and Becky Topping exchanged passes but the latter's effort went wide. Mia Pemberton then Crystal Barker had shots from outside the area as Beechy looked to reduce the arrears then when play switched to the other end twice in quick succession Beechy keeper Elina Parker dealt with efforts from the visitors centre forward.
Another Mia Pemberton flag kick was met in the area but once again a header by Bethany Hill just missed the target. Some great defending by Shauna Smith, Julie Ward and Rachel Griffin who had a superb ninety minutes kept the hosts at bay during the last few minutes of the first half. Beechy made a promising start to the second half and after a corner Stacey and Becky had shots on target blocked then a couple of minutes later Crystal saw her effort deflected off a Hyde defender. Hyde's No14 put the hosts 3-0 up adding a decisive finish to another well worked breakaway move down the right flank. Beechy continued to work hard in all areas of the pitch and deserved a goal which almost arrived when a mazy run by Crystal set-up a chance for new player Katie McGovern who's first time effort just missed the target. Another new signing Taryn Monks made her Beechy debut late in the game and she was soon involved in the fast action. Two brilliant ball winning tackles by Player of the Match Aimee Greenwood earned generous applause prior to Hyde adding their fourth goal.
