POSTED: September 12 2018 19:25:07. By Keith Long - Successive 3-2 Win For Sat Morn Senior Team

Another 3-2 victory maintained Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Teams unbeaten start to the season following their away game at West Didsbury. Once again several squad players were unavailable due to various reasons leaving United Manager Graham Rothwell with just twelve players for this fixture. Beechy got off to a flier taking the lead inside the opening minute when the ball broke to Lee Rothwell on the left side of midfield, he executed a first time pass to Max Leonard who raced clear and with one touch slotted the ball past the keeper. But United were ahead for only a couple of minutes after a swift break from West Didsbury resulted in a low cross being parried out by Beechy keeper Chris Pollock, who in an attempt to regain possession lost out to a West Didsbury forward who got his toe on the ball to equalise. West Didsbury played a lot of route one football which suited the conditions as torrential rain arrived during the game.

The hosts went 2-1 up after twenty five minutes and Beechy weren't producing their controlled football due to the conditions but they worked hard and still created chances. Currently United have seven players out injured and to make matters worse Lee Rothwell had to limp off the pitch due to a twisted ankle and was replaced by new player Matthew Aiyegbusi. In the 35th minute Beechy equalised when Roy Owen in space about twenty five yards from goal swung in a delightful cross and Oliver Brown planted a header beyond the keeper. In the second half there was a real gritty and fully determined performance from all the Beechy players who for long spells were under pressure. United's winning goal arrived after Max Leonard broke clear and beat a couple of players before being fouled inside the area and the referee immediately awarded Beechy a penalty.

Max then stepped up to take the spot-kick and confidently beat the keeper drilling the ball low into the bottom corner of the net. After the goal Beechy were forced to dig even deeper when a couple of their outfield players suffered knocks, so under the circumstances full credit to all United's players who held on to win a hard fought game. Several players put in great performances, Wes Pierce and Max Leonard amongst them but centre half Matthew Swift was named Man of the Match.
