- Junior Section Match Details 10th/11th Sept 16
The 2016/2017 season got underway for the majority of Beechfield United's Junior Section teams. The Under 16's Predators who have re-joined the Timperley and District Junior League were away to Lymm Rovers Bandits and after leading 2-0 at half time added two more goals in the second period to guarantee the points via a 4-0 win. Man of the Match Joseph Lydiate (2) Brandon Kent and Liam Egerton fired in the goals. The Predators had kicked-off seven days earlier at home against Wilmslow Town Cougars who made Beechy work hard for their 4-2 victory. Liam Egerton (2) Joseph Lydiate and Dylan Durose got the goals and Mitchell McGivern was Man of the Match.
Playing their first official 11-a-side game in the Salford and District League were the Under 13’s Tornadoes who were at home at Stott Lane to Swinton Junior Panthers. Despite suffering a heavy defeat, the Beechy lads displayed great team spirit throughout the contest. Sharing the Man of the Match Award were Josh Allen and Thomas Anderson.
The Under 12’s Thunder (9v9) kicked-off the new season against AFC Salford Juniors (formerly Moorside Blue) at Eccles College. In this highly competitive Division 2 match both sets of defenders were disciplined and any decent scoring chances were cancelled out. In the latter stages of the first half AFC Salford kept the pressure on United and eventually took the lead. The team’s continued to create chances in the second half but it was Thunder’s Reiss Miller who was the busiest of the two keepers. An optimistic attempt to score from the halfway line by Jacob Lacey led to United’s equaliser when the Salford Juniors keeper misjudged the flight of the ball and it trickled into the net. Beechy kept playing some nice football but lacked the vital finish around the penalty area. AFC Salford Juniors picked up the tempo and once again Reiss Miller rescued United with several fine saves but eventually Salford Juniors scored again to secure a 2-1 victory.
In Division 3 United’s Under 12’s Tornadoes (9v9) who were away at Urmston Town Vipers were left feeling deflated after conceding two goals inside the final few minutes. Alan Kay netted twice for the Tornadoes who suffered a 3-2 defeat.
On Sunday morning the Under 12’s Storm (9v9) met Manchester Maccabi Galaxy at Beech Farm and secured a 5-1 win. Rome Hodson was named Man of the Match and on target with the goals were Joe Newton (2) Luke Carr, Adam Rothwell and Ben Howard.
After a battling first half display against local rivals Moorside Rangers Blue the Under 11’s Storm (9v9) held a one goal lead at the break. Rangers equalised early in the second half but Beechy were able to step up a gear and were rewarded with four more goals. Kaden McClean got a hat-trick and there was a goal apiece for Jake Mansion and Man of the Match Elliott McClurg-Taylor.
Man of the Match Harley Kirk, Bradley Oliver, Theo Valentine, Charlie Mulvenna and Raphael Silveira on his debut got the goals for the Under 11’s Tornadoes (9v9) who made a terrific start to the season with a superb all-round team performance in the away game at Moorside Rangers Green. Keeper Lewis Wallis saved a penalty and another player making his debut was Luke Moss who produced a superb display. Having to deal with the offside law the players adapted well throughout the match.
Playing their first fixture in the Bolton Bury and District Football League were the Under 10’s Hurricanes who went goal crazy in their home game with Horwich St Mary’s. The Beechy lads produced a brilliant all-round performance and sharing the goals were James Taylor, Tom Worthington, Oliver Coles, Josh Clough, Ole Kerwin, Reilly Happy, Dominic Roaden and Georgie Georgiev. The Man of the Match Award was shared between Reilly Happy and Ole Kerwin.
Away at Barr Hill Cubs the Under 10’s Typhoon took a two goal lead thanks to Jamie Withington and Beechy deserved to be ahead after playing some very good football. However, tiredness crept in during the second half and Barr Hill fought back to force a draw. There was a Man of the Match performance from Typhoon keeper Peter Ellis who made some excellent saves.
Kicking-off their season in style were Beechy Under 10’s Storm who were rewarded for a first-class display against Salford United Reds. Both James Wharton and Josh Mcloughlin were praised following some brilliant defending. Caden Gibson set-up Reece James for Storm’s opening goal then Sonny O’Brien created the chance for Reece to net the second goal and Reece completed his hat-trick when he chipped the ball over the keeper.
Four new players started the Under 9’s Tornadoes first league game with De La Salle. There were strong displays from Tanatswa Chirwa, Anthony Brophy, Freddie Wardle, and Aiden Lawton plus a goal from Oliver Percival. There were some good performances in pre-season and a desire to play good football in this match means a promising season ahead.
Despite having only seven players available and forced to deal with a massive pitch the Under 9’s Storm produced a courageous display in their Development Group Yellow Division away game with Manchester Maccabi Falcons. Oliver Cowley who scored both Beechy goals was also voted the team’s Best Player.
In the Development Group Red Division Beechy Under 8’s Storm were in action against Winton Spitfires. Both teams produced some lovely football and on target for United was Player of the Match Fletcher Jackson and Kylan Twigg.
Sharing ten goals with opponents Swinton Junior Tigers were the Under 8’s Tornadoes. In this entertaining mini-soccer fixture Beechy who twice held the lead in the second half scored goals courtesy of Harvey Riva and Ethan Harris. Chosen by the player’s parents Man of the Match was Josh Jemmett.
