- Sat Morning Team Lose Opening Day Fixture
For their first match of the 2021/2022 season Beechfield United Saturday Morning Senior Team had a tricky away game against West Didsbury.
With a few players missing Beechy knew they faced a tough ninety minutes and Manager Kyle Wray set-up the team to sit deep during the opening period and use the counter-attacking option. United defended superbly in the first forty five minutes with both Hal Birtles and Anthony Wallis in good form. In the second half Beechy began to attack more showing a greater threat as their opponents appeared to get frustrated and tired. However on the hour mark following some poor defending Beechy allowed a West Didsbury forward the opportunity to advance up the pitch and chip the ball over the United keeper to give the hosts the lead. Changing his tactics Kyle Wray introduced substitutes Kyle Mears and Issiaka Saba into the action and gradually Beechy started to move the ball around much better and Kyle Mears via a fantastic strike was denied an equaliser by an equally quality save.
But as United pushed forward more they were caught off guard and following another piece of slack defending gifted West Didsbury a second goal with twenty minutes to play. Continuing to dominate the game Beechy created chances galore and eventually got a deserved lifeline after a move between Kyle Mears and Wes Pierce the latter added a neat and accurate finish. Despite a late attacking surge United failed to grab an equaliser and went home empty handed after suffering a 2-1 defeat.
