Irlam JFC versus Beechfield United Storm U/8's

As per usual an extremely feisty encounter against Irlam and Beechfield Storm though focussing on the football - Beechy “stormed” past a good Irlam side in our second match in the Red Group.

The team also welcomed back Henry from a lengthy lay off who took the captains armband!

Game was on an even keel as Beechy and Irlam traded blows; Alfie in net looked very assured making a couple of saves and looked to calm the defence with a number of gathers. Beechy started to get a hold with Freddie getting forward with a couple of shots being saved as well as Henry showing his magic on the right dribbling past a couple of players. Following a late challenge on James which resulted in him having to go off the introduction of Caleb helped to reinvigorate the side and with their goalkeeper in no man’s land trying to clear a ball near the touch line Caleb raced, won possession and coolly slotted into the bottom corner.

Imad was brought on to the field and with Irlam tiring brought further advantage who broke free and screwed a shot wide - though he didn’t have to wait long before getting on the scoresheet. Caleb breaking through following a Freddie through ball and unselfishly tapping the ball to his team mate who finished with his right foot. Imad shortly returned the favour running down the left passing the ball in to Caleb to finish. As for the Irlam attacks - shots were well covered by Vincent who made some fantastic saves - one directly onto the bar from long distance

Going in at half time three goals up the game looked like it may turn as Beechy gave away a penalty - this hit the post and Beechy looked to regain control - with Beechy racing forward and scoring though being an Irlam parent had entered the field of play was unfortunately was ruled out.

Another goal did come with Imad again being assisted by Caleb with an identical bi line pass which Imad gratefully finished - his first being saved and then second one being put past the goal keeper.

Though Irlam reacted Vincent was absolutely superb in goal making some assured saves while Fred and George at the back were excellent at blocking & distributing the ball upfield.

Beechy were beaten though only by a kick in goal that was ruled out for being taken direct.

For the rest of the Storm goals - best described as a “team steam” which was shuffled into the back of the net by Imad, James fouled on the edge of the box nailed the ball top of the net with an impressive free kick & finally Caleb poking the ball past the goal keeper as Imad raced down the left wing with 3 of Irlams players chasing cut the ball in the box to Caleb unmarked.

While the game was marred by of-field instances the players were able to contain the emotions for the most part to bring back a comprehensive victory with a lot of training ground goals.

*Moments of the Match:*
Brilliant save from Vincent in net pushing the kick in shot onto the bar in the first half as well as Caleb unselfishly prioritising his team mate with a pass on goal for Imad to start his run of goals!

*MOTM*
Special mentions to both Alfie and Vincent for their stints in net who played excellently to keep a clean sheet as well as their distribution being top notch. However the MOTM went to the duo of *Imad* and *Caleb* today who brought the chemistry forged in class to the pitch today - a hattrick each and assists galore between them both deserved the trophy!
