Down on the Eccles Fields only a lonely pair of Corvids appeared above calling out to the flock like the two lonely Beechfield players anxiously awaiting the late arrival of Team mates to appear. It was a great morning for football with older Teams sharing the fields of the Deans club that brought through players like Ryan Giggs and this Match day reporter... The Deans Team were well organised and set-up early going through drills and warmups with extended Team talks on positioning and rotation plans. A quick Team talk for the Beechy Boys and with players still missing, the game had to get underway; An exciting start for Beechfield with Brayden back from holiday and controlling the defence, Bodie stretching his legs on the right and Amir taking up the left, Bryce up front battling hard against the giant players managing to get through like he can and get some shots off through early chances but the keeper proved to be excellent.
Deans had some possession but did not look like scoring with Cormack the Viking in goal who was able to close play down fast and distribute well. The Beechy boys could not get the passing together as they have showed they can. The Deans Team being the first to the ball most of the time they were able to sneak an early lead. The threat at this point of losing the game was low and the Beechy Boys were expected to bounce back but worryingly players commenting of tiredness and others of physical tiredness it was going to be a difficult second half. The sleepiness continued into the second half and what could have been a bag full of goals for Tornado the Deans keeper and defence just managed to keep them out showing more speed and clinical finishing needed to beat such a good keeper.
Like the Corvids picking at a wounded animal Deans started to take possession from the tired runners, Beechfield forgetting to let the ball do the work and dazing like still in the middle of a fortnite game dream it was not difficult for Deans to extend their lead. Beechfield still fought back showing their true potential and some great passes from Bodie and Brayden, runs from Kayden and Amir with players clean through several times it was not to be their day. Oscar fought well and suffered a bad challenge but rallied on and showed how his footwork has improved with some good defensive play. Cormack out of goal as an extra player up front unlucky not to score and Amir now in net made some great saves but the barrage was too much to deal with, Beechy players on a steep learning curve being shown what happens when they lose the ball and do not try to get it back.
Although some exceptionally good chances presented themselves for Beechy with some nice shots from all over the park, Kayden, and Bryce so close to scoring, the Deans Team managed to pull it back into an attack and flow past players with ease and given lots of time to take shots it was to finish with a win for Deans. The usually super charged Beechy Boys put in more attacks towards the end but still missed that killer finish. What felt like a very disappointing result is a great learning curve for all involved to show what effort is required to be successful, the small margins that make the difference and how important the training sessions are to keep up the fitness and confidence to apply it in matches. The Beechy Boys will learn from this and come back fighting harder next week and get bagging those goals like they so deserve. Deans were let off today with a scoreline as commented by their manager that does not reflect the game so back to training Tuesday to ensure we close those small margins and get them smiles back on their faces!
