- Impressive Display Earns 1st Team 2-0 Win
Thanks to an impressive all-round display Beechfield United 1st Team were rewarded with a 2-0 home win over Walshaw Sports on Saturday 18th September 2021.
Some great defending especially in the first half plus two goals in the final eighteen minutes secured United a fully deserved victory. Both teams contributed to a fast start in this Premier Division fixture and Beechy's back four Kyle Galbraith, Kurtis Lee, Byron Ward and Danny Royle confidently dealt with some early pressure from the visitors. Mike Phythian, Keenan Switzer and Sam Bolton were all involved in some stylish moves and on one occasion an effort by Callum Davies went straight at the Walshaw keeper. It needed a vital clearance from Kurtis Lee to deny Walshaw the lead when the visitors created another slick accurate passing move through the midfield. After winning the ball via a well timed tackle Danny Royle delivered an accurate long pass onto Zar Jordan who's shot on target was deflected behind for Beechy's first corner of the game. Adopting the long ball option Walshaw went close again to grabbing the lead but United's defence remained rock-solid as they gave good support to keeper Jack Galbraith.
The visitors keeper made a fine reaction save following a corner and when the ball rebounded out of the area Kane Rowley volleyed it over the crossbar. At times Walshaw proved to be a tough nut to crack and United struggled to find their normal quick passing game. Twice the visitors No10 saw efforts drift wide of the target and the Walshaw No8 also had a long range half-volley flash past the post. Despite Beechy still not firing on all cylinders Kyle Galbraith, Keenan Switzer and Sam Bolton produced moments of great play with some superb ball winning tackles. HT 0-0. Walshaw Sports won a corner in the first minute of the second half and three minutes later were awarded a penalty after Kurtis Lee was guilty of a rash challenge but Man of the Match Jack Gilbraith rescued Beechy when he saved the spot-kick taken by the visitors No9. Both teams continued to compete fiercely for possession and a piece of top-class defending by Kyle Galbraith denied Walshaw's No10 the chance to open the scoring. Clear cut chances were still few and far between despite United playing with a bit more zip though Beechy still relied heavily on their well organised back four. Zack Murray replaced Danny Royle and he soon adapted to the pace of the game which continued to be played at a terrific pace.
A genuine appeal for a penalty following a clear foul on Zar Jordan was waved away then Zar had the ball in the visitors net though he strayed into an offside position. United made the vital breakthrough in the 72nd minute via a move involving Sam Bolton and Zar Jordan who's surging run sent him racing down the right wing and his cross found Callum Davies and Beechy's top goalscorer fired the ball beyond the keeper. Walshaw produced some dangerous counter-attacks as they sought an equalising goal but rejuvinated since the goal United were much better organised and substitute Zach Booth gave them extra strength in midfield. A truly magnificent one-handed save by Jack Galbraith virtually guaranteed Beechy their victory before the second United goal arrived after eighty seven minutes. A corner to Walshaw was cleared by Kyle Galbraith and Sam Bolton brought the ball under control before his perfect pass found Callum Davies who added a real strikers finish. Sam Bolton had a golden chance to make it 3-0 after taking the ball past the keeper.
