- Sunday Senior Team September 2023
Beechfield United newly formed Sunday Morning Senior Team kicked-off the 2023/2024 season in the Manchester Sunday Amateur League on 3/9/2023 with a home game against Mancunians AFC.
*In heatwave conditions the teams created an hard fought Division 2 contest and it was Mancunians who collected the three points thanks to a 4-1 victory. Beechy were on top in the opening twenty minutes and both Jace Winspear and Josh Reynolds had two of the best chances to give United the lead. On the atrificial surface both teams competed fiercely for possession forcing the match official to work hard to maintain control. Callum Warner, Jack Keelan and Jake Wilkinson produced some excellent defending prior to Mancunians taking the lead in the 33rd minute. Continuing to look a threat from set-pieces Beechy were denied an equalising goal following some solid defending from the visitors back four. Mancunians went 2-0 up via their No9 but Beechy reduced the arrears on fifty eight minutes when a thunderous drive by Kai Mitchell bounced back into play off the crossbar and Kieran Savage headed home the rebound. The match retained it's frentic pace and the visitors took a 3-1 lead when the Mancunians No23 was gifted a free header from a corner. A superb piece of skill by Kayson Mitchell carved out a decent chance for Aaron Keenan who's effort forced a fine save from the visitors keeper. Beechy continued to enjoy a large percentage of the ball but the end product was missing following some superb attacking football. Mancunians scored their fourth goal within the last few minutes.
*Seven days later Beechy met Village Manchester in the 1st Round of the Memorial Cup and a 5-2 win was enough to secure a place in the next round of the competition. Making a few team changes Beechy who controlled the tie throughout were rewarded with five quality goals via Lewis Culf (2) Sam Porter, Liam Potter and Nixon Crooks. (10/9/2023)
*Beechy's first Division 2 win of the season came against Prestwich Marauders courtesy of another 5-2 scoreline. In this home game Beechy conceded the opening goal after nineteen minutes and briefly keeper Ben Sykes-Baines plus defenders Jack Keelan and Callum Warner were in constant action. As Beechy strived to get back level Jordan Hignett was always a threat going forward when he produced some powerful runs down the left wing. Marauders held their one goal lead at the break but Beechy found a quick equaliser in the second half courtesy of Kai Mitchell's superbly executed free kick. Three minutes later Beechy grabbed the lead when Sam Porter supplied the vital pass for Ellis Sackfield who added a neat close range finish. Creating several useful counter-attacks Marauders suddenly earned themselves an equaliser after the visitors No16 fired the ball into the net at the second attempt. Stepping up a gear Beechy went back in front when Liam Potter and Michael Moran were involved in a move that sent Kayson Mitchell racing down the right wing and Kayson's cross was met by Sam Porter who fired the ball beyond the keeper. Both Callum Warner and Jordan Hignett produced vital headed clearances and during another counter-attacking spell from the visitors a volley by the Marauders No18 hit the crossbar. Beechy's fourth goal arrived from another move on the right wing when a cross from Kayson Mitchell led to Kai Mitchell slotting the ball home for 4-2. Then Man of the Match Kai Mitchell produced the highlight of the game when he completed his hat-trick and the scoring with a spectacular world class strike from just over the halfway line leaving the Marauders keeper totally stranded inside the penalty area.
