Deans Youth and Ladies U11's Sports v Beechfield Utd U11's Tornadoes

The Tornadoes were dealt a blow just before kick-off with regular keeper Ty Dobson declared a late absentee. Aidan Thompson showed courage to step up as stand-in goalkeeper.

Beechy started well and had chances to take the lead early on before a mazy run and finish from Grayson Evans finally broke the deadlock. We had more chances but Deans grew into the game and only an exceptional 1 on 1 save from Aidan Thompson kept Beechy's lead intact. The game was end to end now and Deans eventually took one of their chances to equalise, and then scored again to take the lead with a lobbed finish just before the break, Aidan could do nothing about either goal. Deans still held their lead at half time.

Beechy again started well after the break. Ralph Theaker hit a fine free-kick from the edge of the box, which the Deans keeper did well to stop, but Dawood Fakeeh was alert and rifled home the rebound for the equaliser.

The game was a bit stop start after that, an injury to Grayson after some fine defensive work from him, disrupted our flow. There was a further stoppage to adjust some poorly aligned goalposts! Deans took the lead again, before scoring a fourth goal somewhat fortuitously with a cross-shot. The Tornadoes did not give up though, Harry Myddleton burst into the box from the left and scored with a fine finish to reduced the arrears with 5 minutes left. Beechy were on the front foot searching for an equaliser when a bizarre refereeing call for a foul throw, unheard of at this age group, gifted possession to the opposition who raced up the other end of the pitch and got a free-kick on the edge of our box. The free kick was hit high into the net giving keeper Aidan no chance. This was virtually the last kick of the game and a final goal to the winners Deans.

For the 2nd week running this was a really competitive game that could have gone either way but we just came up short. Again there was no lack of commitment and I'm sure we will win one of these close games soon. Player of the Match was Aidan Thompson who showed great commitment to the team by helping out in goal, and did some excellent stops!
